Project Review: Countrywide Store Remodel Visualization-Part II:Kiosk Designs-Round

Here is the primary final Kiosk design done in all wood for Countrywide back on 2007.

Here is the shot of the Kiosk 3D Prototype with the base storage area opened up.

An alternate with metal frames on the big posters up top.

A close up 3D render of the pamphlet storage details in the free standing Kiosk design.

I was asked to do an all metal version as well, as some stores used laminate brushed aluminum so I did this alt version too.

This was a half wood up top, with a metal base combo design version. 3D really assists in this as the alternates take little time to do.

A variation with different frames on the posters.

I rendered out this ortho view to get base dimension back to the architectural team at Countrywide to put into the plans.

Countrywide Store Remodel Visualization
Part II
Kiosk Designs: Round

Client: Countrywide Homes via The Cimarron Group.
Art Director: Myself.
Project Date: Summer 2007

In this, my second posting on the 3D Architectural Visualization I did for Countrywide back in 2004-2009, today I am covering one of the many Kiosks I helped to visualize for them, and today we are looking at the free standing round Kiosk Design.

One of the great advantages to 3D visualization is that the client can see before they build what the design will look like, and in most cases the folks who write the checks, need this service to assist in the bidding process.

I was given the architectural plans for a square Kiosk and was asked to create a few variations and this round version was build out in 3D as an Architectural visualization asset to present to the CEO of the company. Once I had it built out, then the variations were fast, as the base objects were created and lighting and textures were ready to go, so I quickly adjusted the various parts and materials to reflect the options they wanted to show. 3D really is the most cost effective visualization method if you want to see many versions, as sketching this would be a new drawing for each concept.

I did a version in all wood, wood+metal, wood+metal+glass, and a wood+glass version. I also built out the internal parts as well and linked it up to open up the storage area below to show the effectiveness of the design.

A free standing Kiosk, or Point of Sale Architectural element, and I will be posting the rest of the designs in the next few weeks.

You can view PART I here with the basic store visualization I did.

Countrywide Store Remodel Visualization
Part I

Client: Countrywide Homes via The Cimarron Group.
Art Director: Myself.
Project Date: Summer 2007

I had worked with Countrywide in the past visualizing various Stores and Banks for the major remodel that was taking place from 2004 to 2007. This set of images was one of the last projects I did for Countrywide in 2007.

I would like to note that Countrywide was using the traditional marker sketches to sell the design internally, yet the limitation was that the people making the decision were not able to translate the sketch into a pure vision of what the space would look like. Here is where we convinced them to do a 3D visualization to get closer to photo-real. They were impressed, and by doing these studies they estimated a cost savings of 12% since we identified a few issues that were addressed in these images that a traditional sketch would not show.

Project Review: 3D Corporate Logo Design: Ruby Construction 2009.

I started with the Icon in the corner of the Logo with the ball above it. when I see a circle in 2D as a 3D Artist first place I go is will a cylinder or sphere work better, so I did try both.

A Color-Picker is what makes a Smart-3D image so easy to mask and manipulate for the vendors and finishers.

For the final I removed the scaffolding in front of the icon.

A front on shot of the full type and simple icon[ with a sphere for the 'dot']

A 3/4 overhead shot for web banners etc.

A front tilted down low angle version too. 3D allows all alternates to be generated very quickly with sometimes just a camera change as seen here.

Here is a nice 3/4 up angle which was my fave'

3D Corporate Logo Design
Ruby Construction 2009.

Client: Ruby Construction via Cindy Ruby.
Art Direction: Cindy Ruby.
Project Date: Winter 2009.

I had worked with Cindy Ruby while in-house at the Cimarron Group doing Theatrical Advertising, and she contacted me after she left to help design out a nice 3D logo for a familys business with a 3D logo.

My typical clients are Theatrical in nature, though a good 25% of my work is in the corporate world, and not just a larger businesses like, Norm's RestaurantCountrywide or Lotus North America, but smaller one with a dozen employees or so as well, so I was ready to go.

I can typically get a logo like this done in a half a day, to just one day and the cost is reasonable for a smaller firm, if they can give me the room to design within the budget as I had here.

For Ruby Construction, I did a few large Icons with the scaffolding on them as well as a full 3D type treatment for the firm in a few angles for various usage. This was a half day project delivered. I finished up with the full type rendered out at various angles and perspectives for differing applications. A fun fast little corporate 3D logo project done in about 4-5 Hrs.

Project Review:The Adjustment Bureau 2009: 3D Conceptual Illustrations

The first pass at the Mobius strip inside Matt Damons head, and on this first pass I aligned it close to the 2D sketch.

Here is a shot showing the basic set up and distortion to the strip when viewed from the side. Whenever you match 2D to 3D exactly since 2D is always a fake, and usually discounts real perspective rules, I need to bent the 3D world to conform back to the 2D.

The final delivery for the Mobius Strip was this much more even and symmetrical version that was used.

I built the model flat and used a twist modifier to create the base object.

This screen grab show the camera and simple scene with the Final Render Rectangular Box Light to the side for the reflection.

The final render I delivered to Cimarron of the tile wall in little metal plates.

The Adjustment Bureau 2009
3D Conceptual Illustrations

Client:Universal Picture via The Cimarron Group.
Art Director: Joseph Stamper.
Project Date: November-December 2009

This was my first project for The Cimarron Group in Hollywood California post my departure as a full time employee for six years from 2003 to back in October of 2009.

I was originally hired to establish a small 3D Department to deliver "The Goods" to the various departments at Cimarron covering, Theatrical Print, Theatrical AV, Home Entertainment, DVD and Blue Ray Packaging etc, and the Corporate Advertising Division, with clients like Universal Studios Hollywood, Mitsubishi, Lotus Automotive Group, Coke, and Countrywide, etc., and the work I did for these divisions back then helped establish what I do for my clients to this day, so I was able to secure a bit more work after I left.

This project was a fun one,and I got to work with the very talented Joseph Stamper, a great Art Director again on this one, with a few fun concepts to be done in 3D for the posters he designed and presented.

The first 3D Illustration I built was the Mobius Strip that needed to wind around inside the photo of Matt Damons head so they could superimpose some footage from the film on the stairway in his head. I refined and delivered this first design above. It required a rework, so I simplified it down and delivered the final for presentation.

Next, I also did a quick take on following the look of some of the trailers with the flipping tiles look so I did a sheet that could be used on a one sheet with photography so I rendered out a few shots at 5000 pixels wide for that use as well.

A quick one day gig, and fun.

Project Review: The Cimarron Group-3D-Department Promotional Screens 2008

I did the animated splash screen for the Portrait-Promotional in-house HD monitors, that was re-purposed to the AV department for all our outgoing AV work.

From selling generic 3D Models online, to iconic architecture for film, I also did 3D Architectural Visualizations, here Countrywide was highlighted.

As a Graduate from Art Centers Transportation Design program, building 3D cars is a large part of what I did at The Cimarron Group.

As an avid VW fan, building a 3D Herbie was a dream job. This asset was used in print and AV for the film Advertising campaign.

3D-Logos are my 'bread-n-butter', so I created a screen to showcase some then current Images.

I did a lot of 3D-Illustration work for the Film, Night at the Museum, this was a Project Specific Image I made for In-House Promotion.

For our in-house Home-Entertainment Division, I did 3D-Illustration work for packaging various Star Wars Properties.

A Project Specific Poster highlighting some of the 3D Design work I did for Superman Returns[ 2007].

Here is a Project Specific Promotional Image for the X-Men 3 Work I did.

3D-Department Promotional Screens 2008

Client: The Cimarron Group.
Art Direction: Thom Schillinger.
Project Date:Summer 2008.

In November 2003,I set up the 3D Design Department, in-house at The Cimarron Group, and provided 3D -Design, 3D-Illustration, and 3D-Animation services to the existing other 11 departments in-house at the Agency, and each department was asked to create some promotional images for the various HD monitors located throughout the company.

Each department was tasked with providing a set of images to display on the HD monitors that were rotated to portrait format, to emulate one of our main products,One-Sheets. My 3D Department was asked to provide specific work that the Owner wanted to showcase.

These Images provided our guests with a quick 'sketch' of what we offered via the 3D Design Department at The Cimarron Group.
