Project Review: The Race to Atlantis PART XXII

Our comic relief is visiting us one final time.

As he leaves us he heads towards the huge city of Atlantis.

Once he reaches the castle a huge energy is emitted and it is revealed that our host...

Was King Poseidon himself all along!

Project Review: The Race to Atlantis PART XI

We see parts falling to form the hoop of the gate in front of us floating above the sand and we go through it while it is still falling.

A bunch of parts come from behind us swooshing by to form wings.

The wings form around the gate and begin to form and focus us on the city behind them.

As we slowly move into the first gate we are interrupted..
to be continued with final boards soon.

Project Review: The Race to Atlantis PART X

...As we continue the creature attempts one last time to stop us.

Out of frustration the creature shoot a fire-ball at the city destroying it!

Bits and pieces of statues and architecture begin falling and one big one hit us spinning us down...

As we float down we are at a loss of power and helplessly spin down...

We begin to level out and see a ring forming... To be cont'd.

Project Review; The Race to Atlantis-PART VII

We see through the stained glass a figure descend towards us into the room.

This menacing figure continues to fill camera and come even closer to us...

This beast screams at us and proceeds to throw a fireball at us...

A few racers who stuck around try to pass, only to get nailed...

Our host suggests we turn and see the world through the wall...To Be Cont'd.

In this seventh post on my work on the 3D ride-film storyboards for the Atlantis Ride Film at Rhythm and Hues, we are in the dead end room and something has appeared before us. This is a main story moment that we must pass to continue in the race. Most of the rest of the racers have left and it is just us and the comic relief there with us. Those who stayed are trying to pass the beast that has blocked the path in the race.

We end this sequence with an invitation to a city through a wall.

We turn up to the sky and fly past the steps on a Pyramid.

We are inside the Pyramid in a great Corridor.

The other racers hit into the walls and parts start falling...

For some reason the other racers turn and leave us alone.

We head to a seemingly dead end at the end of this long journey...

Project Review: Microscopic Ridefilm "The Flea".

The Exterior of the Steampunk Flea Design.

A Close Up of the Cabin Interior where the Driver works from.

A Typical shot of the Motherboards used to build these micro Cities.

The Flea

Client: Medical hardware Manufacturer.
Art Director: n/a.
Project Date: 1995.

Before I went to Disney Interactive I had a very fun freelance job for a ride film being made my a major US Circuit board Manufacturer. The film used the circuit boards as a miniature city where this giant "Flea" chases you around for the ride. The flea was to be what is now called "Steampunk", but back then it was to be a "Jules Verne look", with Victorian cast iron elements, and lots of metal and rivets.

What you see was recreated in 3D [ Light-wave] and animated to create the film. I designed the main Flea interior and exterior as well as the the way they things would animate. I also did a test section of the city showing the basic look that was duplicated to give the feel of flying through a huge city.

The flea itself, uses huge spring loaded rear feet that coil up and launch while destroying whatever it launched off of in the process. It was also steam powered with the big furnace and pipes coming out of the body. The close up shows the driver adjusting the "cheek" reflectors to aim the lightning at the ride guests. The city shows the small detailed windows inside the circuits.

Cheers, THOM
