Project Review: California Props 68+70:TV spot Monopoly.

The Spot opens with an overhead view of a "Monopoly" game board showing Casino's Named for the 64 Casino's in California.

We fly down to the board level to read the names of the specific locations of the Casio's.

We fly around the game-board showing more casino's as well as continue to tell the message with flying in game cards.

As we fly out from the board we have finished the 20 second 3D animation and the game board flips.

A view of the ba game pieces I designed for the Monopoly game-board for the political TV spot while at The Cimarron Group.

Indian Gaming Monopoly TV Spot
Propositions 68 and 70 from 2004 in California

Client: Don Sipple via The Cimarron Group.
Creative Direction: Roland Mesa
Project Date: Fall 2004

While running a small "One Man Army" TM Bo Opfer 9K9, at The Cimarron Group in Hollywood back in 2004 I worked on a few Political Advertising campaigns for Arnold Schwarzenegger who was the newly elected Governator for our state, on a concept of "A Monopoly in Indian Gaming".

I created a monopoly board and custom "tokens" to place on the board. I set everything up and brought in my good friend and Animator extraordinary, Dean Folwer of Machine Films to created the motion to bring the concept alive. The spot finished and aired in 2004.

You can view the spot in rough form, on my You Tube Channel here, enjoy!

Project Review: Clockstoppers Standee Designs

A standee design that would have a full PC set-up inside running a looped interactive watch-face.

I played with gears in the designs moving and still, this theatrical standee concept has three spinning rings surrounding the time travel watch.

A spotlight concept for the Premiere as well as for outside a Theater with a huge light that would come on inside the "floating" spinning rings ala. superman 2.

The Half round wall concept has a cut out of the main characters with spinning rings behind them.

This Theatrical Marketing standee concept has the watch face ring gear so pin to move the others.

Clockstoppers
Standee Designs 2001.

Client: Paramount Pictures via BLT and Associates.
Art Director: n/a
Project Date: Summer 2001.

An early project I worked on while at BLT and Associates in 2001 was to design some fully formed 3D standees for theaters for the new Paramount film, Clockstoppers.

The movie is a time travel film with a watch that is the machine that "stops the clock", so I developed a few looks for standees that would sit in Theater lobby's to and have some small animations to advertise this film based on the watch worn by the main character Jesse Bradford.

A link to the IMBD listing is here.

Enjoy the weekend!

Project Review: Universal Studios Hollywood- Backstage Globe

Frame One we start on the stage set of the Universal Globe.

We slowly start to rotate around the hanging globe...

We come around the side and start to see the painted globe on the front...

We come around to the front and the high energy volumetric light crests the edge...

The Logo has seated and we slowly truck into it...

We end with the light blasting out the lens from behind stage right.

This ad was given to me as the "seed" idea for the Motion Graphics project by our corporate division.

Universal Studios Hollywood
Motion Graphics for Backstage Globe Logo

Client: Universal Studios Hollywood via The Cimarron Group.
Creative Director: Nigel Williams.
Project Date: Winter 2005.

When I ran the small 3D Department at The Cimarron Group I provided 3D services from Design, Modeling, Illustration and Animation to the many internal divisions within Cimarron, and we also had a traditional Advertising Division that approached Universal with this concept that was based on a print ad that was done in the early 90's for Absolut Vodka called "Absolut Hollywood".

The Idea was to start on the back of the universal logo on a sound-stage and reveal the final logo in the move, which was v fairly straight forward. As with most scenes I am a builder so I make, and had built a huge variety of sound-stage props that I sold for the company on Turbo-squid as stock models that was a way to get this scene filled rapidly and dressed for the final images.

The move a was a fast 20 second spot with a 5 second spin as you can see in the above frames. I have also put up the original ad that was given to me as my direction creatively from our Corporate Division.

The Phantom 2040, then shoots the rope high into the city and swings into frame...

We cut to a close shot of a roof as a foot lands, we pull back to reveal a huge hand of The Phantom... TBC...

Project Review: The Music Man-ABC: 2003

The first pass at the Logo had a smooth brass material with a small red key-line outlining the text to pick up the color from Matthew Broderick's costume.

A darker version of the Logo sans the key-line with a lot more contrast and reflectivity.

Here is the Trombone I built, Lit and Rendered for the final Posters above.

Here is the longer version of the model that was modified to fit a billboard, and yes it is exaggerated in length which is why 3D Illustration is so versatile.

A Big Drum with the Logo applied to it.

THE MUSIC MAN
ABC 2003

Client: ABC via BLT and Associates.
Art Director: Daren Clarey.
Project Date: October 2003.

One of my final projects while I was in-house at BLT and Associates in Hollywood CA. was to do some 3D Illustrations and some Logos for the upcoming ABC project of a remake of "The Music Man", starring Matthew Broderick.

I did a few logos in brass material to emulate the brass from the band, and I also did some Illustrations of a Trombone[ thankfully we had a Trombone Player working there for tech info!], as well as a large drum. We combine the Logo and I l rendered the Drum flat to put the two together as well. This kind of quick 2-3 Hour project was typical of the speed and turn around that you find in the advertising world. They would y use stock photography if it was lower cost so you need to work quickly. The big advantage is the image is owned by the client so they pay no rights fees as it is their own trombone.

The Logos did not go to final, but both the Poster and the Billboard thirty-sheet, went to final and finished out, so I rendered these at 5000 pixels wide for the finisher to re touch the artwork.

Project Review: Launch City-PART V- Intell Pentium-4 Room 1999

An Early concept for Intel of an Energy Tunnel with "Hot Light" at the end.

A Dark concept more ominous of the tunnel with lighting and texturing d adjustments for a more Special Effects based space[ Sci FI ]

A basic screen wit just a few 3D elements.

My MC Escher-esque room I designed for the Virtual Reality Room for Intel.

The Tall under the city canals with Pentium Logos floating past us.

The Pentium Temple as e called this with a waterfall and 'toadstools" to cross over.

A different angle on the above Pentium Temple showing the entrance from Launch City down to the location.

Launch City Part V
"The Pentium-4 Room from 1999"

Client: Launch Media Inc.
Art Director: Myself
Project Date: 1999

In this fifth post on LAUNCH city, I have posted a virtual reality-online and DVD space I designed for Intel for the then new processor the Pentium 4, and I created a few looks to pitch to them so we could give them more virtual real estate in this virtual city Launch City, now owned by Yahoo.

All we needed to show was the Pentium-4 Logo, and I used it as a big icon, or monolith that would emit light and energy. I did architectural spaces ranging from underground fortresses, to MC Escher-esque tunnels and spaces.

I always have a great deal of fun doing concepts for architectural type of spaces , but t with the addition of this being a virtual space too it lends itself to s hyper reality which is so appealing as a designer to explore as well.

To view PART I on Launch City you can go here.

To view PART II go here.

To view PART III for the Train Station "Twitch" look here.

To view PART-IV look here.

Project Review: Star Wars Trilogy PART III- Logos

A Polished aluminum StarWars Logo with a pattern brushed face.

A Polished aluminum Star Wars Trilogy Logo tipped back into space ala.' the opening title scroll they made famous.

A spaceship hull material is used on this Trilogy Logo for StarWars.

A patterned blue surface as we explored various color schemes for the package.

A variation on the standard Star Wars title replaced with "SW", here is the fire-hot back lit logo in 3D.

The final Logo I did was used for mock ups presented.

STAR WARS TRILOGY:PART III
Logos
for DVD/Blue Ray Packaging

Client: Lucas Film LTD via The Cimarron Group.

Art Director: Cheryl Savala.
Project Date: Spring 2004.

The re-re-release on DVD of the Star Wars Trilogy packaging seems to come out every few years and I did 3D Illustrations for the packaging back in 2004 while I was working for the Home Entertainment division of the Cimarron Group for Cheryl Savala who was the Creative Director for the projects I did for DVD's.

In this posting, I focus on the 3D Logos I did for the project. It was a fast 3/4 day project and the logo needed some "looks" done quickly to review for applications of the packaging and standees.

I did about 15 looks for the standard logo, and two for the SW Trilogy version we did as well.

You can view PART I on the Vader Helmet here

You can view PART-II showing the Light Sabers here.
