Project Review: GameShow Video Game Key Art Logos PART II

The new Family Feud Logo for 2011 based on my 2010 work.

Hollywood Squares was a new project this year, fun to make the game grid and the Logo for this one.

Another new property for 2010 was this logo as well as some collateral designs for the rest of the package.

The last Game-show Logo I did this season for Nomadic was this Million Dollar Pyramid Logo.

Gameshow Videogame Packaging
3D Illustration and Design PART II

Client: Nomadic
Art Director: Greg Orlowski
Project Date: Spring 2010

I had worked with Greg the prior year on the Key Art packaging for the new Price is Right Video Game, and he returned with a lot more work. I first revised the Family Feud work I did for 2010 for the new 2011 version of the game. Once that was done I addressed three new property's including, Hollywood Squares, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and $1,000,000 Pyramid.

I enjoy making a dimensional version of a logo since there are so many ways to interpret the depth beyond a mere extrusion. the bevels rivets and part lines for a constructed sign is a fun job, and Games are a great subject matter to attack.

To view the 2010 Logos PART I you can see them here.

To view the web online game stages I did for the same properties, you can view them here.

Phantom 2040-PART XXXV
Various Prop Design Sketches

Client: Hearst Animation Productions.
Art Director: Myself.
Project Date Spring 1993.

In this 35th post on the Phantom 2040 TV Animation series I worked on in the early 90's , here I have posted a variety of sketches for various props used in the first and second season on The Phantom 2040 Television series.

What I loved about being both the Art Director and Conceptual Designer on the series is I was able to craft the overall look of the show, as well as take part in a large amount of the designs that were needed to populate an entire world. My inspiration was Syd Mead and how he handled Blade Runner, designing everything from the city to the clothes to the technology that was used and even fonts and graphics. A whole package of design, SUPER FUN!

Project Review:The Michael Jackson Experience 2010

The starting point for the 3D design with neon letters and the main Title with "Sparklet's" type mirror discs.

A version with energy in the volumetric lighting and the motion blur.

A brighter version of the logo with some adjustments to the scale of the Scaffolding etc.

One of the final presentation 3D Logos, this one with the open neon tubes and the volumetric lighting from behind.

The Second final presentation Logo with no volumetric light, and the neon was now covered with a translucent material dispersing the glow over the letters better.

This is a matte layer I provided so the Final Retoucher could grab part by part to speed up their work flow.

The Michael Jackson Experience 2010

Client: Ubi Soft via Nomadic.
Art Director: Greg Orlowski.
Project Date: Early Summer 2010

Back in June I had the privilege of helping in the early concepts for the main Logo for the new Michal Jackson Experience game Ubisoft had developed. I had worked for Greg Orlowski over at Nomadic on multiple projects for a few years as a freelancer when this came my way, and it certainly was a fun exercise in design, as well as a fun subject matter to address with MJ.
The final was a retouched painted illustration, but my files were used to help develop the final look, though the 3D was only reference.
I also provided a Smart 3D file to Greg and his team to grab the individual parts from the scene as seen above as well.

Out Takes
PART III
Universal City Walk 1992

Client: Out Takes Via Eric Allard at All Effects.
Art Director: Eric Allard.
Project Date Summer 1992

Out-Takes was a blue screen photography studio at Universal's City Walk Outdoor Mall in California, and in my third post I have put up about half of the early development designs I did to establish a direction.

The early design stage you get more freedom as certain parameters are not know yet or defined so you kind of wing it a bit to establish a direction. One reason the process is so valuable is it also established what you DON'T want to do. Sometimes you need to draw a bad design to establish in another persons mind that it is not a good idea., since as a designer we may see an issue but we are the "eyes" for the client so we must show them at times.

Look for PART IV soon.

PART I can be seen here.

PART II can be seen here.

Dawn of the Dinosaurs
Motion Graphics work

Client: 20the Century FOX via The Cimarron Group.
Art Director: Steven Viola.
Project Date: Summer 2009.

One of my final 3D animation jobs I did for The Cimarron Group back last Summer was some Motion Graphics work for the Theatrical; release of the third film in the Ice Age Trilogy Dawn of the Dinosaurs.

Most of the work was title matching a 2D Illustration of the title and replicating it in 3D. The look was applied to all 3D cards animated and still. I also did a 20th Century FOX Icon in 3D filled with Acorns the signature prop of the Skratt Character you see in the films. It is in my Demo Reel as a wipe used in TV spots.

A Nightmare Before Christmas TV spot. PART II

Client: Design Setters.
Art Director: n/a
Project Date Summer 1993.

This is the second post on the set design work I did back in the early 90's for a tie in Television Commercial Spot for A Nightmare Before Christmas.

It was a tie in spot for the amazing Tim Burton film and we needed to build practical sets for live action actors to be in that matched the film somewhat. This was a very fast 5 Hr gig that was in and out in about half a day. I know the spot was filmed, though I never say the fruits of my labor, but here are the rest of the sketches I did.

You can see the first post here.

Elf on DVD
3D Graphics and Character Design for Home Entertainment.

Client: New Line Home Entertainment via The Cimarron Group.
Art Director: Susan Adams.
Animation: Dean Fowler via Machine Films.
Project Date: Fall 2004

While working at The Cimarron Group running a 3D Department/Division, I did animation and graphics for the Home Entertainment Division headed up by Susan Adams. This project was unique in that the film makers were not allowed to use the characters from the film due to some legal situation with Rankin and Bass the inventors of the stop motion look in the 70's that was emulated in the film ELF.

I designed new unique characters and brought in Dean Fowler the best character animator I have worked with to bring them to life. I did the typical DVD package animated with some DVD's coming out and did some backgrounds to match the look of the film. FUN stuff!

Phantom 2040-PART XXXIV
B.I.O.T. Robot Sketches

Client: Hearst Animation Productions.
Art Director: Myself.
Project Date Spring 1993.

In this 34th post on the Phantom 2040 TV Animation series I worked on in the early 90's , here I have posted some B.I.O.T. sketches for various states e find them.

Since I designed the BIOTS inside and out I had to "tear" them apart and destroy them for the various shows so I needed to show the guts inside as to what would be found. I also designed some props for them as well as they would put on a jet pack as seen above or the special Legion X3 BIOT would open up to reveal a chest cannon so that needed detailing for the animators in South Korea to accurately portray.

3D Logos and Marketing Promos for the The Jim Rome Show

Client: The Jim Rome Show via BLT and Associates.
Art Director(s): Jeff Barnett, Scott Painter, Luis Sola, and Zack Ris.
Project Date: Fall 2003

While running a small two man team 3D team at BLT in 2003 I did a series of "Big Metal logos" for the Jim Rome show. We ended up using a full 2D brush painted look so the 3D was not used ,but I did get to put the finished Logo on a few items. A fun standard 3D logo explore with about 1 day of work represented.
