Phantom 2040 PART VI: Vehicle Interiors
Client: Hearst Animation Productions.
Art Director: Myself.
Project Date: Summer 1993
Trained as a Transportation Designer in industrial design, working on a television animated show doing vehicles can get a bit overkill as we are trained to create real functioning products that don't really apply in the 2D animation world. For every design I did, I designed the vehicles and environments as if they were real and needed to work to make the show that much more immersive and believable.
I design through all prop/environments and vehicles so they can have a functioning interior. For the Phantoms "HERO" old mustang that is easy enough as it is just a car, but for all the other strange vehicle I did that as well. A cool spaceship that you cant sit anywhere is a failure in design , even though as an exterior concept design it might look great. I design both.
